Heat Intensifies in Northwest India; Rain and Snow Likely in Himalayan States

India’s weather pattern is undergoing a noticeable shift, with rising temperatures across northwest and central regions, while rainfall and snowfall are expected in the hills and parts of the Northeast. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), maximum temperatures in several parts of northwest and central India are likely to rise by 4–6 degrees Celsius above normal over the next few days.

Two Western Disturbances to Impact Weather This Week

The IMD has forecast two Western Disturbances to become active this week. Currently, strong westerly winds are sweeping across northwest India at high speeds.

A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to affect the Western Himalayan region from the night of March 4, followed by another system around March 6. However, both systems are likely to remain relatively weak in intensity.

Rain and Snowfall Forecast in These States

Under the influence of the approaching systems:

• Jammu and Kashmir: Rain and snowfall are likely between March 4 and March 8.

• Himachal Pradesh: Rain accompanied by snowfall is expected on March 7 and 8.

• Uttarakhand: Light rain and snowfall are likely on March 8.

In the Northeast, light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning has been forecast for Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh on March 3.

Rising Heat and Humidity in Western India

The IMD has also indicated humid and uncomfortable weather conditions in parts of Konkan and Goa on March 4 and 5. Gujarat may witness warm and humid conditions between March 4 and 6.

States including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra are likely to record maximum temperatures 4–6 degrees Celsius above normal for the next five days, intensifying daytime heat.

Delhi Weather Outlook

In the national capital, maximum temperatures are currently hovering around 30°C, while minimum temperatures are near 15°C. Over the next 24 hours, minimum temperatures are expected to remain steady, followed by a gradual rise of 2–3 degrees Celsius.

Over the coming week, maximum temperatures in Delhi may increase by 3–4 degrees. Winds ranging between 15 and 35 kmph are likely from March 3 to March 8, potentially adding to the feeling of warmth and mild discomfort during the day.

Overall, while heat tightens its grip over northwest and central India, hill states and parts of the Northeast are set to experience brief spells of rain and snowfall in the days ahead.
