Shimla, Himachal: Himachal Pradesh is witnessing intense heat conditions as bright sunshine continues across the state. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow heatwave alert for the districts of Una, Kangra, Shimla, and Solan for Thursday, warning that temperatures may rise further.

In view of the soaring temperatures, the Health Department has urged residents to take precautions and avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun.

Daily Life Affected by Severe Heat

The ongoing heatwave has created difficulties for schoolchildren, office-goers, and daily commuters. Residents say it has become difficult to step outdoors after 10 a.m. due to the extreme heat.

The highest temperature in the state was recorded in Una, where the mercury touched 44.0 degrees Celsius — 5.1 degrees above normal. Due to the hot weather, authorities in the Paonta Sahib subdivision have revised school timings.

Even Hill Areas Witness Sharp Rise in Temperature

The heat is no longer limited to the plains, as mid-hill regions are also experiencing unusually high temperatures.

In Shimla, the maximum temperature reached 30.5 degrees Celsius, which is 5.5 degrees above normal. Temperatures in several other cities across the state have also increased significantly.

Just a few days ago, temperatures in most parts of the state were below normal, with higher-altitude areas experiencing cool mornings and evenings. However, continuous sunshine over the past three days has led to a sudden spike, pushing temperatures 4 to 6 degrees above average in many locations.

Thunderstorm and Drizzle Likely from May 22

According to the Meteorological Department, some high and mid-altitude areas may witness light drizzle on Thursday.

Weather conditions are expected to remain unstable on May 22 and 23, with chances of light rain in several regions. The change in weather could bring temporary relief from the scorching heat.

The department has also predicted light rainfall in some parts of the state between May 24 and 26 as a Western Disturbance becomes active, although officials say the system is not expected to be very strong.
