Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh continues to reel under intense heat conditions, with the India Meteorological Department reporting soaring temperatures across several districts.
Temperature Extremes Recorded
According to the Meteorological Centre in Bhopal, the highest maximum temperature was recorded at 44.3 degrees Celsius in Nowgong (Chhatarpur), while the lowest minimum temperature stood at 19.4 degrees Celsius in Mandsaur.
Heatwave conditions prevailed in Ratlam, Chhindwara, Mandla, Malanjkhand, and Nowgong, while warm nights were reported in Bhopal, Chhindwara, Mandla, and Narmadapuram.
Lightning Strike Claims Farmer’s Life
Meanwhile, a tragic incident was reported from Betul district, where a farmer died after being struck by lightning.
The incident occurred near Ghodida village in the Bhimpur block while the farmer was working in his field. Sudden weather changes, including thunder and rain, led to the fatal strike.
Rainfall and Rising Temperatures
Over the past 24 hours, rainfall was recorded at isolated places in the Indore division, while most parts of the state remained dry.
Maximum temperatures were above normal by:
- 2.5°C to 2.8°C in Bhopal, Ujjain, and Chambal divisions
- 3.4°C to 3.8°C in Gwalior, Rewa, Jabalpur, Shahdol, and Sagar divisions
Minimum temperatures also remained higher than normal in several regions.
Thunderstorm and Hail Warning Issued
The IMD has forecast thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds (40–50 kmph), and possible hail in districts including Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Narmadapuram, Betul, Harda, Khandwa, Indore, and Jabalpur.
Farmers have been advised to take precautions to protect crops and produce from potential damage.
Weather Outlook and Advisory
The IMD predicts no major change in temperatures over the next two days, followed by a possible rise of 2–3°C. A new western disturbance may impact weather patterns from April 23.
For Bhopal, the forecast suggests partly cloudy skies with chances of light rain, daytime temperatures around 39°C, and night temperatures near 26°C.
Residents have been advised to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and take special care of children, the elderly, and livestock.
