Heavy rain alert in 13 districts of Punjab; flood threat looms

A heavy rain alert has been issued for 13 districts in Punjab today. Jalandhar experienced heavy rain in the morning, bringing a cool breeze to the weather. Meanwhile, in Amritsar, rain overnight and early morning has caused waterlogging in several areas.

Ludhiana is overcast. Drizzle began in the morning, but stopped shortly after. Meanwhile, the weather in Mohali remains humid, and rain is expected.

Heavy rain warnings have been issued for many parts of North India due to the activation of a Western Disturbance. According to weather experts, the clouds generated by this system will pass through the upper reaches of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh from today until Tuesday morning.

A heavy rain alert has been issued for Punjab for the next 24 hours. The hilly areas are receiving more than normal rainfall, raising the risk of flooding in Punjab. Due to the rain, water levels in dams are continuously rising.

For this reason, water is being released slowly and in a controlled manner to reduce the pressure on dams, which is also increasing the water level of the rivers. An orange alert has been issued in 13 districts of the state, while a yellow alert has been issued in the remaining districts due to the possibility of heavy rain.

Alert in these 13 districts today
According to the Meteorological Center (IMD), a heavy rain alert has been issued today in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Ludhiana, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala and Sangrur while a yellow alert is in effect in the remaining districts. Along with the rain, winds are also blowing at a speed of 40 km in the state.
