Heavy rain expected in Punjab today, schools shut; Ravi-Beas river in spate

There are chances of heavy rain in Punjab today (26 August). The weather department has issued an orange alert for 9 districts of the state. While there is a yellow alert in other districts. The effect of the rain in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir in the past few days was also seen in Punjab. Water is being released continuously due to the rising water level of Ranjit Sagar Dam and Bhakra Dam.

Ravi is in spate due to the water released from Ranjit Sagar. Its effect was seen more in Pathankot. 7 villages of Makora Patan in Gurdaspur have lost contact with India. At the same time, there is a holiday today in the schools of Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Pathankot and Gurdaspur districts and Ajnala and Raiya blocks of Amritsar. Whereas, schools of about 20 flood-affected villages of Fazilka have been closed till further orders.

At the same time, the effect of water released from Bhakra is being seen in the Sutlej. However, the water level of the Sutlej remains normal right now. The impact of the water released from Harike Headworks has been seen in Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, and Fazilka areas.

People said that they are stuck in their homes since August 11. A 2-minute journey takes one hour in boats. They have to come out of the village again and again to fulfill the food items in the house and to get the ration.

Possibility of rain in most districts

An alert has been issued regarding rain in all the districts of Punjab today. An orange alert has been issued regarding rain in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala of the state. While there is a yellow alert in all other districts. That is, there is a possibility of more than normal rain in the entire state.

While tomorrow, Tuesday, the rain alert is going to be limited only to Pathankot and Gurdaspur. On the other hand, after the weather became normal on Wednesday, a new Western Disturbance will again become active from August 29, after which there will be chances of rain in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar.

Good rain was also recorded a day before

Amritsar of the state recorded 20.6 mm rain till 5 pm on Monday, 7.2 mm in Ludhiana, 37 mm in Pathankot, 55.5 mm in Ferozepur, 20 mm in Hoshiarpur, 5.5 mm in Rupnagar and 10.5 mm in Mohali.

Even after this, an increase of 1.2 degrees was recorded in the temperature, but this temperature was recorded 2.4 degrees below normal. At the same time, the maximum temperature of Amritsar was recorded at 30.5 degrees in Mohali. Apart from this, the temperature was recorded at 25.4 degrees in Amritsar, 25 degrees in Ludhiana, 30 degrees in Patiala, 24 degrees in Pathankot and 28.5 degrees in Bathinda.
