Amidst heavy rain in Pathankot, the monsoon has regained momentum across Punjab and Chandigarh. Skies remain overcast in Jalandhar. The Meteorological Department has issued a rainfall forecast for July 28 and 29, predicting heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in some areas.
Rainfall is expected to continue in several areas on July 30 and 31 as well. While precipitation activity may subside slightly on August 1 and 2, the likelihood of light to moderate rain—with heavy downpours in some pockets—remains.
Over the past 24 hours, Punjab’s average maximum temperature saw a marginal rise of 0.3°C. Faridkot was the hottest place in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 42.1°C. Among other major cities, maximum temperatures were recorded at 39.6°C at Bathinda Airport, 39°C in Anandpur Sahib, and 35.7°C in Pathankot. Meanwhile, maximum temperatures of 35.3°C in Amritsar, 35.4°C in Ludhiana, and 35.3°C in Patiala were recorded.
Significant Rainfall in Anandpur Sahib and Thein Dam
Rainfall was recorded in several parts of Punjab over the last 24 hours. The highest rainfall, 25.5 mm, occurred in the Thein Dam area of Pathankot, while Anandpur Sahib recorded 21.5 mm. Additionally, 14 mm of rain was recorded in Ludhiana and 0.6 mm in Amritsar.

Chandigarh recorded 40.8 mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours. The city’s maximum temperature stood at 34.8°C—2.2°C below normal—while the minimum temperature was 25.4°C, which was 1.4°C below normal. Humidity levels ranged from a maximum of 92 percent to a minimum of 64 percent. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in Chandigarh is likely to range between 33 and 34 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius, over the next five days.
