Jaipur: Heavy rainfall continues to lash Rajasthan for the second consecutive day, causing waterlogging in low-lying areas and traffic disruptions that inconvenience travelers. Roads across Jaipur are submerged, and several residential neighborhoods are experiencing flooding.
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has instructed District Collectors and officials to stay vigilant in light of the current weather conditions. He emphasized the importance of prompt relief efforts, including providing drinking water, food supplies, life jackets, and ensuring the safe evacuation of residents from danger zones.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has linked this heavy rainfall to an active low-pressure system over Rajasthan. An orange alert has been issued for districts such as Tonk, Bhilwara, Jaipur Rural, and Jaipur city, cautioning of intense rainfall over the next two to three hours. Rainfall is expected to persist in several eastern and southern districts due to this lingering weather system.
Several areas, including Sawai Madhopur, Baran, Bharatpur, and Alwar, received between 1 to 3 inches of rain. Continuous rain has led to ongoing dam releases, with overflowing rivers and streams cutting off communication with small villages and towns.
Officials noted that the weather system originating from the Bay of Bengal has weakened but remains active as a low-pressure area over southeastern Rajasthan. Currently, the monsoon trough stretches from Sri Ganganagar to Delhi, increasing the likelihood of sustained heavy rainfall across many parts of the state over the next two days.
In Kota, heavy rain has caused the Parvati River to swell, blocking road connectivity between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Water levels on the Etawah–Khatoli road bridge are one foot above the structure, resulting in the closure of State Highway-70 (Kota–Gwalior–Sheopur route). Vehicle queues are forming on both sides of the bridge, and low-lying areas in Khatoli are flooded, prompting evacuations from over six colonies.
Local authorities, including Pipalda Tehsildar Arun Singh and Khatoli police, are actively monitoring the situation. Two SDRF teams have been deployed, and public alerts are being issued. Villages such as Madanpura and Govardhanpura have become isolated due to rising water levels.
