Heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh; schools and colleges closed in several areas; Meteorological Department issues alert until July 15

The monsoon is fully active in Himachal Pradesh, and a spell of rain is likely to continue across most parts of the state for the next six days. According to the latest forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shimla, light to moderate rainfall is expected across various regions of the state from July 10 to 15, with the possibility of heavy rain in isolated areas.

The Meteorological Department predicts that from Friday through July 15, heavy rain may occur at one or two places in parts of Shimla, Mandi, Solan, Sirmaur, Kangra, Kullu, and Chamba districts. Prolonged heavy rainfall is anticipated in the Sirmaur, Mandi, Shimla, and Solan districts.

The department stated that strong winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 km/h are likely in Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti between July 9 and 15. Additionally, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are forecast for several parts of the state.

Light to moderate rainfall was recorded across most parts of the state over the last 24 hours. Jot in Chamba recorded the highest rainfall at 5 cm, while Malraon (Bilaspur), Sarahan (Shimla), and Chuwari (Chamba) each received 4 cm of rain. Kukumseri was the coldest place in the state, recording a minimum temperature of 10.6°C, whereas Bhuntar recorded the highest maximum temperature at 33.3°C.

The Meteorological Department has advised people to stay away from rivers and streams, avoid unnecessary travel in landslide-prone areas, and adhere to advisories issued by the administration. The department warned that continuous rainfall could lead to landslides, waterlogging, slippery roads, and traffic disruptions. There is also a risk of flash floods in parts of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti.

Heavy Rain Alert in Sirmaur: All Schools and Anganwadi Centers to Remain Closed Today
In view of the continuous rainfall and inclement weather in Himachal Pradesh, the Sirmaur district administration has issued a precautionary order to keep all government and private educational institutions, as well as Anganwadi centers, closed on Friday, July 10. This decision has been taken in anticipation of potential incidents such as heavy rain, landslides, flash floods, and falling trees.
