Heavy Rains Lash Telangana; One Person Washed Away, CM Revanth Reddy issues High Alert

Hyderabad: One person was washed away in floods while another was rescued as heavy rain lashed parts of Telangana on Wednesday under the impact of Cyclone Montha, which weakened into a deep depression after crossing the Andhra Pradesh coast in the early hours of the day.

The administration has been placed on high alert in view of forecasts predicting more heavy rains.

Driver Missing After Vehicle Washed Away in Khammam

A DCM vehicle was washed away in floodwaters in Khammam district, and its driver went missing.
The incident occurred when the vehicle was swept away in the Nimmavagu stream near Janaram bridge in Konijarla Mandal.

Locals reportedly tried to warn the driver not to venture into the waters, but he ignored the advice, and within minutes, the vehicle and the driver were both swept away by the strong current.

Man Rescued from Flooded River in Vikarabad

In Vikarabad district, a man who was swept away in the Kagna river was rescued by locals.

The incident took place near Veerishettypally in Tandur Mandal, and the person was identified as Narasimhlu of Aganur village.

Four youths noticed him being washed away and rushed to rescue him using a rope, successfully pulling him to safety from the flooded river.

500 Students Rescued from Flooded Residential School

In Nalgonda district, police and other emergency personnel rescued around 500 students from a government-run tribal welfare boys’ residential school in Kommapalli village, Devarakonda Mandal.

The school building was submerged in water overflowing from a nearby stream, and the students were reportedly crying for help before being rescued safely.

IMD Issues Red Alert for Six Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for six districts in Telangana — Hanamkonda, Warangal, Mahabubabad, Jangaon, Siddipet, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri — warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.

CM Revanth Reddy Orders Statewide Precautions

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed the entire administration to remain on high alert.

He directed district officials to evacuate families living in low-lying areas and shift them to relief camps as rivulets and canals continue to overflow.

The Irrigation Department has been asked to monitor water levels in all projects, reservoirs, and water bodies, with Collectors to be alerted before any water release. Sandbags are to be kept ready at vulnerable points.

Cyclone Impact Most Severe in Khammam, Warangal, Nalgonda

Officials briefed the Chief Minister that Khammam, Warangal, and Nalgonda districts are likely to face the worst impact of Cyclone Montha.

With Hyderabad witnessing heavy rains, the CM ordered GHMC and civic authorities to deploy disaster management teams for rescue operations in inundated localities.

SDRF and NDRF Teams Deployed

SDRF and NDRF teams have been directed to carry out coordinated rescue operations in heavily affected districts under the supervision of the respective district Collectors.

Traffic and Transport Disruptions

The CM reviewed the impact on public transportation and instructed officials to stop vehicular movement on flooded bridges and causeways.

Police and Revenue officials have been told to erect barricades near flooded bridges and maintain constant monitoring.

Focus on Crop Protection and Procurement Centres

The Chief Minister also enquired about the impact of heavy rain on paddy harvesting, directing authorities to take preventive measures to avoid crop losses.

He instructed that special arrangements be made at paddy and cotton procurement centres to safeguard produce.

Train Services Affected; CM Orders Alternatives

Following the stoppage of Golconda Express and Konark Express at Dornakal Junction and Gundratimadugu station in Mahabubabad district, and diversions of several trains by Southern Railway authorities, the CM directed that alternative arrangements be made to ensure no inconvenience to stranded passengers.
