Heroin Worth Rs 12.09 Crore Seized in Mizoram, Two Drug Peddlers Arrested

Aizawl: Security forces seized heroin worth around Rs 12.09 crore and arrested two suspected drug peddlers in two separate operations in Mizoram’s Saitual district, officials said on Tuesday.

The operations were conducted jointly by the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police based on specific intelligence inputs.

Heroin worth Rs 8.85 crore seized in first operation

In the first operation in the Ngopa area, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police intercepted a vehicle and arrested a suspected drug peddler.

The team recovered 1.180 kg of heroin packed in 109 soap cases from a specially modified chamber concealed behind the vehicle’s rear number plate.

The seized heroin was estimated to be worth around Rs 8.85 crore. The vehicle used for transporting the drugs was also seized.

Second operation leads to Rs 3.24 crore heroin seizure

In another intelligence-based operation in the same Ngopa area, the joint team checked a vehicle and recovered a concealed packet containing 432 grams of heroin packed in 40 soap cases.

The seized drugs were valued at approximately Rs 3.24 crore.

The operation also resulted in the arrest of Devendra Singh, 57, a resident of Muzaffarpur district in Bihar. The truck used for transporting the drugs was seized.

The total heroin recovered in the two operations was 1.612 kg, with an estimated combined value of Rs 12.09 crore.

Drugs, vehicles handed over to Mizoram Police

The seized heroin, two vehicles and the two arrested suspects were handed over to the Mizoram Police for further investigation and legal action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Officials said the operations were part of continued efforts by security forces and the Mizoram Police to curb drug trafficking through the state.

Mizoram has emerged as an important transit route for narcotics entering the Northeast from neighbouring Myanmar. Saitual district, located in northern Mizoram, shares borders with Manipur and Myanmar.

Security forces have been conducting intelligence-based operations along the international border and other vulnerable areas to prevent drug smuggling and disrupt trafficking networks.
