High alert as 3 JeM terrorists enter Bihar via Nepal border, police put up posters

Patna: The Bihar Police headquarters on Thursday issued a statewide high-risk alert as intelligence inputs indicated that operatives of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) may enter the state via the Nepal border.

According to a senior Bihar Police official, three suspected terrorists — Hasanain Ali (Rawalpindi), Adil Hussain (Umerkot) and Mohammad Usman (Bahawalpur) — reportedly arrived in Kathmandu in mid-August and entered Bihar last week.

Following the inputs, the police have circulated passport details of the suspects across border districts, including Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Supaul, Araria, East Champaran and West Champaran, as well as Kishanganj.

Security agencies and intelligence units of districts have been directed to remain alert, confirm identities and act on any suspicious activity.

The exact border point from which the terrorists entered has not been disclosed, but all districts have been directed to remain alert, sources said.

The India-Nepal border remains vulnerable, as visa-free movement is possible under the bilateral treaty, making infiltration a serious challenge for security agencies.

Security has also been tightened in the Seemanchal region, which has a Muslim majority population. Patrolling and surveillance have been strengthened by increasing security arrangements, and intelligence units of districts have been instructed to keep an eye on suspicious activities.

Security along the border was especially tight after Operation Sindoor in May, and now the threat of these threats is increasing further due to the election year.

It is worth noting that before the Assembly elections, security agencies are considering such infiltration as a major threat, so that there is no disturbance at the time of major leaders and election events.

Earlier, the NIA and the state police had arrested PFI modules in districts like Phulwari Sharif in Patna, which were said to be involved in anti-national activities.

The news of the entry of JeM operatives has raised apprehensions about a major terror network taking root in Bihar, in view of which the ATS, STF and district police have been put on high alert.
