High Court Intervention Brings New Twist to Pastor Ankur Narula Case; CBI Probe Gets Green Signal

Jalandhar: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the issues raised in the case involving Pastor Ankur Narula and submit its report before the court.

The order was passed in the matter of “Tejasvi Minhas vs. Union of India & Others” (CWP-PL-43-2026 (O&M)), which was heard on August 27 by a bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra and Justice Rohit Kapoor.

CBI to Submit Report in Sealed Cover

The court clarified that the CBI may submit its findings in a sealed cover at the next hearing. The next hearing has been scheduled for October 6, 2026.

During the proceedings, a Special Public Prosecutor appeared on behalf of the CBI. The court permitted Additional Solicitor General of India Satya Pal Jain to share reports submitted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) with the CBI. Following this, the CBI was given liberty to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the issues raised and place its report before the court.

ED Reports Kept Confidential

The court also directed that details of the proceedings and reports should not be shared with the media by any party at this stage. Reports submitted before the court on August 27 will remain in sealed covers under the custody of the Registrar General.

The bench examined the contents of both ED reports in chambers in the presence of counsels representing the parties. An earlier status report had also been submitted in a sealed cover by the Assistant Director of the ED, Chandigarh, on August 5.

The court has now paved the way for the CBI to examine the issues raised in the case and submit its findings before the next hearing.
