High Court takes strict action on Harbhajan Singh’s security issue, reprimands Punjab government

The Punjab and Haryana High Court strongly reprimanded the Punjab government in the matter related to the security of former cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh. The court said that the government does not appear to be serious about this serious matter.

Dissatisfaction over delay in filing reply

During the hearing, the government lawyer again requested time to file a reply. The High Court expressed displeasure and asked why the reply had not been filed despite the previous time. The court has given the government a final opportunity to file a final reply by May 27, 2026.

If a reply is not filed, the ADGP (Security) of the Punjab Police will have to appear in court

The High Court warned that if a reply is not filed by the stipulated time, the ADGP (Security) of the Punjab Police will have to appear in court. The court also maintained its interim order, stating that there should be no compromise on the security of Harbhajan Singh and his family.

Controversy arose after joining the BJP

The matter began when Harbhajan Singh’s security was withdrawn the day after he left the Aam Aadmi Party and joined the BJP. This was followed by protests outside his Jalandhar home, with the words “traitor” written on the walls. Harbhajan Singh filed a petition in the High Court against this.
