Shimla, Himachal Pradesh: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has unveiled an ambitious vision for the hill state, announcing that the government is committed to making Himachal self‑reliant by 2027 and a prosperous state by 2032. These goals were articulated by the CM during a media interaction following the conclusion of the State Assembly’s budget session.

Focus on Systemic Economic Reforms

Addressing reporters, CM Sukhu highlighted that structural reforms introduced during the recent budget session are aimed at strengthening the state’s economy and accelerating growth. Although the current budget is relatively smaller in size compared to last year’s allocation, the government has emphasized controlling unnecessary expenditure and preventing misuse of state resources as part of a broader economic correction strategy.

Legislative Measures to Support Growth

During the session, the Himachal Pradesh Assembly passed key amendments, including changes to the anti‑defection law aimed at strengthening democratic norms by removing pension benefits for defecting MLAs. The session also introduced relief measures in transport and taxation, such as exemptions for certain vehicle categories and reduced entry taxes, which are expected to benefit residents and businesses alike.
