Himachal: 38 boys and girls schools to be merged across state

In Himachal Pradesh, 38 boys’ and girls’ schools have been merged to form co-educational schools. Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar has issued a notification merging schools located within a radius of 500 meters to one kilometer. Under this scheme, four schools each in Shimla and Bilaspur, 12 in Kangra, eight in Mandi, six in Solan, and two each in Hamirpur and Chamba have been merged to form co-educational schools. These schools have been merged with other schools within the 12 PM Shri schools. All these merged co-educational schools will be taught according to the CBSE curriculum from the new academic session.

Co-ed schools to simplify administrative procedures

The Education Department argues that co-educational schools will simplify administrative procedures for affiliation, improve teacher and staff deployment, and better utilize infrastructure. Students will benefit from a national-level curriculum and a competitive environment. Under a notification issued by the Education Secretary, the principals of schools designated as lead schools for CBSE affiliation will now serve as principals of the merged co-educational government senior secondary schools.

After the merger, the principals of the lead schools will assume charge of the newly formed co-educational schools. Principals of schools that are not lead schools for CBSE affiliation have been instructed to report to the office of the respective Deputy Director (Secondary Education) until their next posting.

All teaching and non-teaching staff of the two merged schools will now be under the administrative control of the principal of the newly merged school. It has been decided to utilize the buildings and infrastructure of the previously operating girls’ schools for the proposed Kendriya Vidyalaya and sports hostel.

The Director of School Education has been ordered to issue detailed guidelines for the effective implementation of the merger, conversion, and reorganization process. This will include all administrative aspects such as staff transfers and rationalization, adjustment of sanctioned posts, transfer of office records, stock, land, and buildings.

These schools have been merged to become co-educational.
Boys and girls’ schools located in Bilaspur, Ghumarwin, Nadaun, Dharamshala, Indora, Dehra, Nurpur, Palampur, Jawali, Bhangrotu, Jogindernagar, Sarkaghat, Mandi, Arki, Kunihar, Nalagarh, Jubbal, Kotkhai, and Bharmour have been merged to become co-educational.
