Himachal: Cabinet expansion to take place after appointment of Assembly Deputy Speaker

Following the much-anticipated decision on the appointment of the Congress State President, the Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly will soon be appointed. This will be followed by an expansion of the State Cabinet. This means that two MLAs will soon be re-elected.

The new Congress State President, Vinay Kumar, resigned from the position of Deputy Speaker before the appointment, leaving this position vacant. A Cabinet Minister position is already vacant.

The Deputy Speaker of the Assembly could be appointed before the Sukhu government completes its three-year term. This could be done anytime in the coming days, while the second appointment is planned for during or after the completion of the Sukhu government’s three-year term.

Appointment May Be Made Before the Cabinet Expansion

Vinay Kumar, Congress MLA from the Renuka Assembly seat in Sirmaur district, part of the Shimla parliamentary constituency, was the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly. He has now become the Congress State President. With the vacancy of the Deputy Speaker’s position, the question now arises as to whether the vacant position will be filled before the winter session of the Assembly or a decision will be made afterward.

Time is short, as the winter session of the state assembly is set to begin this Wednesday in Tapovan, Dharamshala. Therefore, this appointment could potentially be made mid-session or even after the session. Even after the Sukhu government came to power, the post of Deputy Speaker of the Assembly remained vacant for a considerable period. It is believed that this appointment could be made before the cabinet expansion.
