Shimla: Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will chair a cabinet meeting at the Secretariat today, where several important decisions related to different government departments are expected to be discussed.

However, due to the code of conduct imposed for the Panchayat elections, the government is unlikely to take any populist decisions that could influence voters.

Vehicle Registration Fee May Increase

According to sources, the cabinet may consider a proposal to increase vehicle registration fees in the state. The Transport Department has reportedly sent a proposal to the government recommending an increase in the fee from 8 percent to 10 percent.

The proposal has been prepared on government instructions to boost state revenue. If approved, the move is expected to increase the cost of purchasing new vehicles and place an additional financial burden on buyers.

Education, Horticulture Proposals Also on Agenda

The cabinet is also likely to discuss important proposals related to the education and horticulture departments.

Sources said discussions regarding recruitment approvals in various departments may also take place. However, major recruitment-related decisions could be delayed due to the election code of conduct currently in force.

Separate Building Code for Himachal Under Discussion

The state government is also expected to discuss implementing a separate building code specifically designed for Himachal Pradesh.

The proposed building code would reportedly focus on the state’s geographical conditions and vulnerability to natural disasters. Key provisions may include earthquake-resistant construction methods, slope-based building designs, stricter action against illegal construction, and promotion of green buildings and rainwater harvesting systems.

Taradevi-Shimla Ropeway Project Likely to Be Discussed

The cabinet is also expected to deliberate on the proposed 13.79-kilometre Taradevi-Shimla Ropeway Project.

According to sources, the government may take a decision regarding loan approval for the project. Officials believe the ropeway could help reduce traffic congestion and improve transportation facilities in Shimla.
