Himachal: CBSE Curriculum to be Implemented in 150 Government Schools

A major transformation is underway in the school education framework of Himachal Pradesh. The state government has initiated preparations to implement the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum in an additional 150 government schools starting from the upcoming academic session.

With this decision, the scope of CBSE-based education in the state is set to expand rapidly, providing students with the opportunity to receive an education aligned with national-level competitive standards. Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar has issued directives to all District Deputy Directors, instructing them to identify and select schools where the CBSE curriculum can be successfully implemented.

All Formalities Must Be Completed in a Time-Bound Manner
To this end, officials have been asked to submit proposals after carefully assessing the schools’ infrastructure, teacher availability, and other essential parameters. The Secretary has clarified that the selected schools must complete all prescribed formalities to obtain affiliation with the CBSE within a stipulated timeframe.

This mandates compliance with basic standards for buildings, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, sports facilities, and other infrastructure. Officials have also been instructed to conduct a physical verification of the schools before submitting their proposals.

The state government has already affiliated 151 government schools with the CBSE during the current academic session. In these schools, both the standard of education and the examination system are now being aligned with national benchmarks.

The Department notes that the decision to expand the initiative was taken following the positive outcomes observed during the first phase. To ensure the effective implementation of the CBSE curriculum, subject-specific teachers are also being appointed in these schools. The Department has further clarified that teachers belonging to the sub-cadre will be deployed to the selected schools in May, thereby ensuring a smooth commencement of academic activities from the new session.
