Shimla, April 14: A controversy has erupted over the relocation of the Gynaecology OPD from the Kamla Nehru Hospital (KNH) in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has issued a statement addressing this matter. He clarified that the Mother and Child Hospital is not being relocated from KNH; only the Gynecology OPD is being shifted.
CM Sukhu stated that reports suggesting the KNH site would be used to construct an MLA Hostel are false. The government has no intention of doing any such thing. The Chief Minister affirmed, “The 100-year-old Mother and Child Hospital will remain right where it is.” He noted that a 270-bed facility has already been established at the location. Furthermore, he mentioned that additional buildings would be constructed within the KNH premises.
Patients to Benefit from Robotic Surgery
The Chief Minister announced that gynaecological treatment at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) would be conducted using modern technology. He highlighted that patients requiring gynaecological care would be the primary beneficiaries of robotic surgery facilities available there. He added that the government is shifting the Gynaecology OPD to IGMC with the best of intentions, yet certain individuals are attempting to politicise the issue.
Gynaecology OPD Shifted for Better Treatment: CM
Sukhu explained that the ultrasound machine currently in use at KNH is 15 years old. Consequently, with the objective of ensuring better medical care, the government has taken this decision after careful deliberation. Meanwhile, both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI(M) have expressed strong objections to the shifting of the Gynecology OPD from KNH. Protests against this move have already commenced.
