Himachal: Company fined ₹8 crore for delay in e-bus supply

The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has imposed a fine of crores of rupees on a company for failing to deliver electric buses within the stipulated timeframe. The corporation has clearly stated that the company will be fined for the number of days it delays the delivery of electric buses.

HRTC has imposed a fine of approximately Rs. 8 crore on bus manufacturer Olectra Greentech Limited for not delivering the electric buses on time.

The company was supposed to complete the delivery of electric buses by March 2026, but even after the deadline, the buses still haven’t arrived. The corporation management has taken this delay seriously and imposed a fine on the company in accordance with the terms of the contract. The state government and HRTC have placed an order for a total of 297 electric buses with the company, valued at approximately Rs. 424 crore.

These buses are to be delivered to various depots in Himachal in a phased manner. Under the plan, approximately 50 percent of the total buses were to be supplied in the first phase.

It should be noted that HRTC had conducted trials of electric buses at 36 locations in the state.

The e-bus trials in the plains were successful, but technical deficiencies were identified during trials in hilly areas. During the trials, the e-bus was only able to travel 160 kilometers in the hills, while the company has guaranteed a 180-kilometer range on a single battery charge. The company is currently working to address these technical deficiencies.
