Himachal: Continuous rainfall for six days; alert issued for storms and hailstorms in several regions

The weather in Himachal Pradesh is expected to deteriorate once again. The Meteorological Department has forecast continuous rain and snowfall across several parts of the state for six consecutive days. Additionally, a ‘Yellow’ to ‘Orange’ alert has been issued for several districts, warning of thunderstorms and hailstorms over a four-day period.

This shift in weather conditions is likely due to the activation of a Western Disturbance. Since this morning, skies have remained overcast in Shimla and its surrounding areas, though there have been intermittent spells of sunshine. Rain and snowfall may occur at a few isolated locations in the higher mountainous regions today.

Temperature Changes Expected After 24 Hours

According to the department, no significant change in minimum temperatures is expected across various parts of the state over the next 24 hours. Subsequently—over the following 3 to 4 days—there is a strong likelihood of minimum temperatures dropping by approximately 2 to 6 degrees Celsius in many areas of the state. Concurrently, maximum temperatures are expected to decline by about 4 to 7 degrees Celsius in several parts of the state.

When to Expect Rain and Snow

According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, light rain and snowfall are expected at isolated locations across the state on March 14 and 17. On March 20, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain and snowfall at a few places within the state. Furthermore, light to moderate rain and snowfall are forecast for numerous locations across the state on March 15, 16, 18, and 19. Alerts have been issued for March 15, 16, and 18, warning of hailstorms and winds gusting at speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour in several districts. Specifically for March 15, an ‘Orange’ alert for thunderstorms and hailstorms has been issued for the districts of Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla.
