Himachal News: 1602 electricity consumer friends to be recruited

The Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved the Board management to recruit 1,602 Consumer Friends in Himachal Pradesh. The positions will be filled through the State Electronics Corporation. While reviewing the proposal submitted by the Board, the Commission found that over 3,000 T-Mate positions have been vacant for a long time.

This is creating a shortage of technical staff in the field, which could impact consumer services and the quality of power supply.

Monthly Salary
Consumer Friends recruited on an outsourced basis will receive a monthly honorarium of ₹10,000. The Board management informed the Commission that the department is currently in the process of staff rationalization, and several positions have been declared surplus and will not be filled. Consequently, the need for Consumer Friends was stated to provide timely services to consumers, increase supply reliability, and fulfill service obligations.

Taking into account these facts, the Commission accepted the Electricity Board’s proposal and approved the appointment of 1,602 Consumer Friends. The Commission clarified that recruitment on an outsourced basis will be done through the government agency Electronics Corporation. These will be the main functions of consumer friends: Electricity consumer friends will primarily act as a quick service bridge between consumers and the department at the field level.
