Himachal Govt Approves Immunohematology & Blood Transfusion Departments in Three Medical Colleges

Following an order from the Himachal High Court, the state government has approved the creation of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion departments and the filling of new positions in three major medical colleges.

The government has issued a notification regarding this. The court was informed that the notification approves the filling of one Assistant Professor position each for the Medical Colleges of Nerchowk, Hamirpur, and Chamba to operate these departments.

The government clarified that these positions will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Recruitment and Promotion Rules.

It is noteworthy that last year, the High Court directed the government to establish Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion departments in all government medical colleges that do not yet have such facilities.

Justice Sandeep Sharma issued this order in the Dr. Richa Gupta case. The court gave the government six months to establish these departments. The most important function of blood transfusion is to ensure that the blood groups of the donor and receiver match. Blood grouping and cross-matching are also required.
