Himachal Raises Govt Room Charges, New GAD Rule

Shimla, April 22: Himachal’s bureaucracy has once again taken a decision that imposes a financial burden on the general public. The General Administration Department (GAD) has reserved 20 percent of the rooms in government buildings and circuit houses for the general public, and the rent for these rooms has been hiked directly from ₹1,200 to ₹4,000. In other words, the increase amounts to not just 50, 100, or 200 percent, but a staggering 233 percent.

Commercial Room Rent Hiked by GAD

According to the GAD, the rent for 20 percent of the rooms earmarked for commercial use at Himachal Bhawan in New Delhi, Himachal Sadan in Delhi, Himachal Bhawan in Chandigarh, and the Willies Park Circuit House in Shimla has been increased. This hike is set to hit the general public hard.

No Impact on Officials and Politicians

This move will have no impact on politicians and officials who draw salaries ranging from ₹2 lakh to ₹4 lakh from the public exchequer, as they will continue to pay the previous rate of ₹1,200. This specific rent hike applies only to the aforementioned 20 percent of the rooms. The GAD has stated that the booking process for these specific rooms will be made entirely online within this very week.

Only the Booker Will Be Permitted to Stay

In these orders, the government has clarified that accommodation will be permitted only to the individual in whose name the room has been booked; proxy entries are strictly prohibited. Instructions regarding this directive have been issued to the respective managers.
