Heavy Hailstorm Alert in Himachal for 2 Days; Rain to Continue Till May 7, Snowfall Likely in Lahaul-Kinnaur

In Himachal Pradesh, the western disturbance will rain heavily again from tonight. The Meteorological Department (IMD), considering this, has issued an orange alert for heavy hailstorm for the next 2 days, tomorrow and the day after. During this period, storms with a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers and lightning may also occur in several areas.

IMD has issued an orange alert for heavy hailstorm tomorrow (Sunday) in the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla, while on Monday, an orange alert warning has been issued for the districts of Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur.

All other districts have been given a yellow alert, except Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur. During this period, light snowfall may also occur on the higher mountains of Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur. This will further reduce the temperature in the mountains. Rain will continue between May 5 and 7 as well.

Temperature will drop by two to three degrees

Even today, there is a chance of light rain in some areas. After the change in weather, the temperature is expected to drop by two to three degrees today. In most parts of the state, the maximum and minimum temperatures are already below normal.

Nahan’s temperature fell 5.8 degrees below normal

Nahan recorded the highest drop of 5.8 degrees compared to normal, with the thermometer recording 27.5 degrees Celsius. Shimla’s temperature also fell 1.9 degrees below normal to 21.8 degrees, Una recorded 35.2 with a decrease of 2.2 degrees, and Mandi recorded 31.6 degrees Celsius with a drop of 1.2 degrees below normal.

Relief from Heat for People in Plains

After the change in weather, the people of the state’s plains have breathed a sigh of relief from the scorching heat. The weather has also become pleasant in the mountains. In such a scenario, tourists coming to the mountains to escape the extreme heat in the country’s plains are enjoying the pleasant weather.

Concerns of Apple Growers Increased

The weather department’s forecast has increased the concerns of apple growers. In several parts of Shimla district, the apple crop has already been destroyed due to hailstorm. In many places, along with the apple trees, anti-hail nets and bamboo have also been damaged. Along with apples, the crops of cauliflower and peas have also suffered damage due to hailstorms.
