Himachal hit by torrential rains: Una records 222.8 mm in 24 hours, Yellow alert issued for 5 districts

Una, August 2: In Himachal Pradesh’s Una, 222.8 mm rainfall was recorded in the last 24 hours. Una city and rural areas were submerged due to this. Water entered more than 100 houses due to this. People’s domestic animals and vehicles were half-submerged in water.

Earlier in 2011, Una had recorded 342 mm rainfall. This is said to be the second heavy rainfall. Rain started in Una at 3 am. It is a matter of relief that the rain stopped at 9 am.

Kullu, Mandi and Shimla have also suffered a lot due to heavy rains. The Chandigarh-Manali four-lane was closed again at night near Kainchi Mor in Mandi after a landslide. It has been restored at 9 am.

On the other hand, the dam built on the Malana river in Kullu and the machinery used in the construction work here were swept away in the strong flow of water last evening. Uttam Ram’s house was reduced to dust in a second due to a huge stone falling from the hill in Thalaut, Mandi. The rock that fell from the hill behind the house stopped at some distance after destroying Uttam Ram’s house.

Yellow alert for rain in 5 districts today

According to the weather department, rain will continue in the mountains for the next 5 days. On Saturday also, there is a yellow alert for rain in 5 districts Bilaspur, Mandi, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur. There is a forecast for Chamba, Kangra and Sirmaur tomorrow. Day after tomorrow i.e. on August 4, a yellow alert for rain has been issued in all other districts except Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti.

There will be more rain than normal in August-September

According to the Meteorological Department, except for the higher altitude areas of Kinnaur, Lahaul Spiti and Chamba, other districts will receive more than normal rainfall during the month of August. There is a forecast of more than normal rainfall in September as well
