In Himachal Pradesh, apple orchards worth crores are in danger due to natural disasters. Hundreds of roads in Shimla and Kullu districts are blocked for traffic. The orchardists’ crop is stuck in apple orchards and grading centers. The orchardists have packed boxes of apples, but due to the traffic jam, it has become difficult to transport the crop to the market.
On the other hand, the apples sold in the markets are also in trucks. Its supply to other states is nominal. About three and a quarter lakh apple boxes are stuck in Shimla district. Every year, the apple business in the state reaches about four and a half thousand crore rupees. This year, due to heavy rains, most of the roads are closed.
The apple season is in full swing in the high-altitude areas. In the Rampur subdivision, in Nankhari and 12/20 area, apple boxes are stuck due to obstruction of roads. Nearly one lakh apple boxes are stuck in Rampur’s 12/20 area and Kholighat, Gahan, Addu, Nagadhar, Khamadi, Kandredi, Kungalbalti and Surdabangla areas of Nankhari tehsil due to road blockage.
The same is the situation in Rohru, Chaupal, Jubbal and Kotkhai. Nearly two and a quarter lakh apple boxes are stuck here due to road blockage. Chail Panchayat of Nirmand subdivision has been cut off from four weeks. Nearly 50 thousand apple boxes are stuck here.
