Himachal: Hundreds of roads and power transformers remain shut down due to snowfall

After heavy snowfall in Himachal Pradesh, difficulties persist in Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Shimla, Chamba, and several areas of Mandi and Sirmaur districts. Approximately 500 roads and an equal number of power transformers remain disrupted in the state.

Nighttime temperatures were recorded below 5 degrees Celsius at 17 locations in the state, with six of these locations experiencing sub-zero temperatures. Sunshine prevailed in Shimla and the surrounding areas today, which is expected to expedite road and power restoration efforts.

However, a forecast of further inclement weather has also been issued for the state. Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority has issued an avalanche warning for areas above 2500 meters in Kullu, Manali, Lahaul, Spiti, and Pangi regions.

Personnel working to restore drinking water supply in the forest amidst 1.5 to 3 feet of snow

In Chamba district, amidst the snowfall, personnel from the Water Resources Department’s Udaipur sub-division are providing their services to deliver water to people’s homes, traversing dense forests and deep ravines through 1.5 to 3 feet of snow.

A video has also surfaced showing Water Resources Department fitters Sunil, Sachin, and water guard Anu Kumar working to restore the drinking water supply. While people hesitate to venture out of their homes in the freezing cold amidst the snowfall, the departmental personnel are working tirelessly to quench the thirst of the people.

Traffic advisory issued for Manali

Life in Manali was severely affected after the snowfall, but it is slowly returning to normal. According to an advisory issued by the police on Friday, keeping in mind the convenience of the general public and travelers, all Volvo buses and buses operating on all daily routes are now permitted to travel from the Right Bank route to the Volvo bus stand in Manali.
