Landslide in Himachal: Workers Run for Safety as Hill Collapses at Shongtong Project Site

Early this morning, there was a massive landslide in Kinnaur, a tribal district of Himachal Pradesh. Workers at the Shongtong Power Project’s barrage site in Powari, Kinnaur, managed to escape and save their lives after the heavy landslide. The scene turned chaotic as a result.

A terrifying video of the landslide has also emerged, showing huge amounts of debris falling from the hill and several trees breaking and coming down. Dust quickly spread throughout the area. Luckily, there were no casualties in the incident.

According to reports, construction work was ongoing at the barrage site of the Shongtong Power Project. Around 10:30 am on Friday morning, a part of the hill suddenly cracked, and a huge number of debris came down. The landslide also damaged the under-construction barrage.

Petrol pump at risk

After the landslide, the petrol pump and a house are at risk. If a large-scale landslide happens again, the petrol pump and the house could get damaged. The administration and concerned departments are keeping an eye on the situation.

Landslide incidents start frightening people before the monsoon

Even before the monsoon, landslide incidents have started surfacing in the state. Earlier, on Thursday evening, a hill cracked on the Sanjauli-Dhali bypass in the capital Shimla. Large rocks, trees, and a huge number of debris fell on the road here, disrupting traffic for about two hours.
