Himachal: Legal action against those who ignore weather and traffic advisories; Police issues notice

Following snowfall in the high-altitude areas of the state, including Lahaul-Spiti, and a snowfall alert issued for the coming week, the Police Headquarters (PHQ) has issued strict guidelines. The police have clarified that legal action will be taken against those who ignore weather and traffic advisories, stop in restricted and unsafe areas, or deliberately take risks.

Snowfall in areas including Shinku La Pass, Darcha, and Tandi in Lahaul-Spiti has resulted in icy roads, causing accidents. Vehicles skidding on the ice are also leading to traffic jams, causing inconvenience to tourists and locals. The Meteorological Department has issued a snowfall alert for the high-altitude areas of the state for the coming week, prompting the police to issue instructions for taking special precautions.

During snowfall, the risk of landslides, avalanches, and road collapses increases. Therefore, stopping and camping near riverbanks, slopes, and narrow roads is strictly prohibited. Tourists, in particular, have been warned against traveling based on information from social media or unauthorized sources.

They are advised to check weather forecasts and road conditions before traveling. Violating the restrictions imposed by the administration may result in fines and other legal action. Hotel operators and tour operators have also been instructed to provide accurate information to their clients.

Police patrolling has been increased on sensitive routes. Police, Home Guard, and disaster management teams have been put on high alert for quick assistance in case of emergencies. DGP Ashok Tiwari has stated that safety is the top priority during snowfall. Strict action will be taken against those who disregard weather and traffic advisories.
