Himachal: Orchardists to be given loans up to Rs 8 lakh for Apple plantation

To promote high-density apple orchards in Himachal Pradesh, farmers are being provided significant relief. The scheme will provide loans of up to ₹8 lakh per acre of land, enabling orchardists to adopt modern technology and achieve higher yields.

High-density methods involve planting a larger number of trees than traditional orchards and employ scientific management, enabling better and higher-quality production in a shorter timeframe. Due to the higher investment in the initial years, farmers are also being offered a grace period, or a moratorium, on loans.

In this regard, Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi stated that loans of up to ₹8 lakh per acre are being provided through the State Cooperative Bank, with a three-year moratorium, meaning farmers are free from loan repayments for three years.

The Horticulture Department is also working to provide high-density apple orchards with saplings. Discussions are underway with several companies. In the future, the Horticulture Department will also provide orchardists with quality and subsidized plant material.
