Himachal: Travel on the Manali-Leh route will now be safer, Defense Minister to virtually inaugurate four projects

The movement of heavy military vehicles and tourists on the strategic Manali-Leh route will now be easier and safer than ever before. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will virtually inaugurate four key projects constructed under the Border Roads Organization’s Project Deepak on December 7th.

The BRO has spent approximately ₹18 crore on these four projects. These include the 70-meter-long Shogtong Bridge, two multi-cell box bridges at Jingjingber, and the 60-meter-long Unam Bridge at Keyling Sarai. All bridges have been constructed using state-of-the-art technology to enable all-weather movement of heavy vehicles.

Project Deepak Commander Colonel Gaurav Bangaru stated that on December 7th, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate 125 new projects across the country, including these four strategic projects of the BRO Deepak Project.

The construction of these bridges will provide significant relief from the long-standing problems of avalanche zones, overflowing drains, and unconcreted roads on the Manali-Leh route. Previously, vehicles were forced to pass through unpaved roads and rocky terrain, causing numerous difficulties for army convoys and ordinary travelers. Now, these new bridges will make the route more reliable, accessible, and safe, despite the challenges of the weather.

Tourists will also be able to travel on this high-altitude highway with a better experience than before. The BRO has completed all preparations, and it is expected that once these projects are operational, the traffic system on the strategically important Manali-Leh route will be strengthened.
