Himachal: Samples of 50 medicines manufactured in state fail quality tests

A total of 167 drugs across the country, including 50 manufactured in Himachal Pradesh, have failed to meet quality standards. In Himachal Pradesh, 37 samples failed in Solan district, 11 in Sirmaur, and one each in Una and Kangra districts.

These include drugs for bacterial infections, high blood pressure, ulcers, preventing blood clotting during injuries, blood thinning, and reducing stomach acid, among others. The state laboratory reported 93 failed samples nationwide, with 31 from Himachal Pradesh failing to meet standards. Similarly, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) found 74 drug samples manufactured across the country to be substandard, including 19 from Himachal Pradesh.

In Himachal Pradesh, four samples from Theon Pharma, three each from Maya Biotech and G Laboratory, and two each from Crust Life Science, Martin Ed Brown, Alop Medi Science, Hiller Lab, and Ultra Track failed to meet quality standards.

Samples from Aethen Life Science (Kala Amb) for allergies, Senrus Global (Jhadmajri) for high blood pressure, Ultra Drug (Manpura) for allergies, Orchid Medi Science Thana for blood pressure, MG Biotech (Paonta Sahib) for infections, GL Healthcare (Parwanoo) for antibiotics, YL Pharma (Baddi) for arthritis pain, and Theon Pharma (Nalagarh) for allergies and high blood pressure also failed. Similarly, a sample of a high blood pressure medication from Swish Company in Una failed to meet standards.

Furthermore, samples of a fungal infection drug from Hygia Home and Personal Care (Parwanoo), a cholesterol drug from Innova Captab (Baddi), a cholesterol drug from CMG Company (Sansarpur Terrace, Kangra), an amoxicillin antibiotic from Alex Company (Baddi), an antibiotic from Hiller Lab, and two samples of an asthma medication from Alop Medi Science (Shamti, Solan) also failed.

Samples of cough syrup for phlegmy cough from Ultra Drug Company in Manpura, cough syrup from Befin Biotech Company in Paonta Sahib, dry cough syrup from Apol Medi Science Company in Shamti, cough syrup from Navkar Company in Solan, nerve pain medication from Vrindavan Global in Lodhi Majra, and the antibiotic amoxicillin from Subathu have failed quality tests.
