Himachal Retired Officer Duped Of ₹11 Lakh In Money-Doubling Scam; Four Booked

Palampur: A case of alleged fraud involving ₹11 lakh has come to light in Palampur, Kangra district, where a man was allegedly lured with promises of doubling his money. A complaint has been filed against four people, including a woman, and police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

Chhind Raj, a resident of Mainjha, lodged the complaint at the Palampur police station. According to his complaint, the four accused approached him on July 4, 2026, claiming they could double his money.

₹4 Lakh Investment Followed By Another ₹7 Lakh

Initially, the accused allegedly asked Chhind Raj to invest ₹4 lakh. Believing their promise, he handed over the amount.

The following day, the accused allegedly told him that his money had been invested in a game and that another ₹7 lakh was required to increase the amount. They allegedly promised him a return of ₹21 lakh.

Lured by the prospect of higher returns, Chhind Raj handed over another ₹7 lakh, taking the total amount allegedly paid by him to ₹11 lakh.

Promise Of ₹1.5 Crore Raises Suspicion

After allegedly receiving the money, the accused later contacted Chhind Raj by phone and asked him to arrange another ₹21 lakh.

They allegedly promised that the additional investment would generate a return of approximately ₹1.5 crore.

The repeated demands for larger amounts and the promise of massive profits raised suspicion in Chhind Raj’s mind, following which he approached the police and lodged a complaint.

    Police Investigating Money-Doubling Scam

Police are investigating the allegations and examining the circumstances surrounding the ₹11 lakh transaction.

Authorities are also working to establish the identities and activities of those allegedly involved and determine whether other people may have been targeted through similar promises of doubling their money.

Palampur DSP Sunil Rana confirmed the incident and appealed to people not to fall for schemes promising to double their money or generate huge profits within a short period.

Police advised the public to verify the details of any such investment proposal before handing over money to strangers and to immediately report suspicious transactions to the authorities.
