Four Die as Monsoon Rains Trigger Landslides, Road Closures Across Himachal; IMD Issues Orange Alert

Shimla: Heavy monsoon rains continued to batter Himachal Pradesh, claiming four lives and causing widespread disruption as landslides blocked roads, rivers swelled and essential services were affected across several districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the state over the next two days.

The incessant rainfall has triggered multiple landslides, damaged infrastructure and disrupted normal life, prompting authorities to urge residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas.

Landslides Disrupt Connectivity Across State

Several roads, including key highways, have been closed after landslides and falling debris blocked traffic. Waterlogging, overflowing streams and damaged roads have further hampered transportation, while restoration work is underway in affected areas.

Officials said emergency teams have been deployed to clear debris and restore road connectivity as quickly as possible. Power supply and water services have also been disrupted in some locations due to the adverse weather conditions.

IMD Warns of More Heavy Rain

The IMD has forecast continued heavy rainfall across Himachal Pradesh and neighbouring hill states, warning of the possibility of flash floods, landslides and rising river levels. The orange alert advises people living in vulnerable areas to remain cautious and follow official advisories.

Authorities have appealed to residents to avoid travelling through landslide-prone stretches and to stay away from rivers and streams, where water levels may rise rapidly.

Administration on High Alert

District administrations and disaster response agencies remain on high alert as rescue and restoration efforts continue. Machinery has been deployed to clear blocked roads, while local officials are closely monitoring weather conditions and vulnerable locations.

With more rainfall predicted over the coming days, authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with emergency services to minimise risks during the ongoing monsoon season.
