Himachal: Mother, ailing son commit suicide in Bilaspur; distressed by financial hardship

An elderly woman and her ailing son died after ingesting a poisonous substance in the Rauda Sector of Bilaspur district headquarters, Himachal Pradesh. The deceased have been identified as Kumud Sharma (66) and her son Akshansh (36). Originally from Arki, they had been living in a rented house in the Rauda Sector for some time.

Akshansh had been suffering from a serious illness for a long period. Over the last two or three years, his condition had deteriorated to the point where he was unable to move about. His mother, Kumud Sharma, was a retired teacher. Neighbors grew suspicious on Friday afternoon when no activity was observed at the house for an extended period. Upon entering the home, they found the mother and son dead.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the woman took this step due to distress over her son’s severe illness and financial constraints. However, the specific poisonous substance consumed by the duo has not yet been identified. The police have sent both bodies to the regional hospital for post-mortem examinations. Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Sandeep Dhaval confirmed the incident, stating that the mother and son committed suicide by consuming poison in the Rauda Sector. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
