Himachal: A fine of Rs 1 lakh will be imposed on illegal homestay operations

Now, a fine of Rs 1 lakh will be imposed on illegal homestay operations in Himachal Pradesh. There is also a provision to cut off electricity and water connections if caught again. The state government has made this arrangement to crack down on illegal homestay operations in the state.

Apart from this, homestay operators will now have to submit their registration certificate to the concerned Panchayat, Municipal Council and Municipal Corporation office. Panchayats and municipal bodies will have to keep a complete account of the homestays running in their area.

The government has also made it clear that it will be mandatory for panchayats, municipal councils, and municipal corporations to keep a record of all the homestays running in their respective areas.

This step has been taken so that illegal operations can be stopped at the local level and the registration process can be made transparent. The state government is constantly receiving complaints that illegal homestays and B&Bs are being run on a large scale. Illegal activities are also being conducted in them.

Homestay operators are also not following the rules, due to which not only is the government losing revenue, but the safety of tourists is also being endangered. Under the new rules, all homestay operators will have to compulsorily register themselves with the tourism department. If any operator fails to do so, strict action will be taken against him.
