Preparations for the census have begun in Himachal Pradesh. Information about when and how the census will be conducted in the state will be provided by Director of Census Deep Shikha Sharma today (Friday) in Shimla through a press conference. In Shimla, employees will be trained for the census starting from June 1.

During this training program, which will run until June 10, census employees will be given information about digital tools and the data collection process. They will also be familiarized with technical aspects related to the mobile app, online entry, and information verification.

Census employees will collect information door-to-door from June 16 to July 15. The census work in the state will be completed in two phases.

Online portal will open from June 1

From June 1, the online portal will also be launched. On this portal, people will be able to fill out the census form online by themselves. For this, citizens will have to log in to the secure online portal cdcensus.government.in. After this, they will have to enter information about themselves and their family. This facility will be available in the state from June 1 to June 15, 2026.

After self-census, an 11-digit ID number will be given

After the self-census, citizens will receive an 11-digit self-census ID number. Between June 16, 2026, and July 15, 2026, when census workers (enumerators) conduct door-to-door surveys, citizens will have to provide this ID number. By doing so, the information entered on the portal during the self-census will automatically appear in the enumerator’s mobile app. This process will prove helpful for both citizens and enumerators.

Data will be recorded through a mobile app

This time, enumerators deployed in the field will collect information from house to house using the advanced HLO mobile application instead of paper forms. Data will be recorded in real-time through this app, which will reduce the possibility of human errors and significantly increase the speed of data processing.

A special portal has been prepared to monitor and manage the entire census process. This portal will help officials in logistics, progress tracking, training, and proper allocation of resources.

In the first phase, information about houses will be collected

In the first phase, a count of houses will be done. During this period, information related to people’s houses will be collected, for which a total of 33 questions will be asked. The special thing is that information about the materials used in the walls and roofs of houses will also be collected. In addition, information about sources of water and grains will also be gathered. The second phase will start in February, in which the count of people will be conducted.

Census work will be done using digital technology

This time, the census work in the state will be done entirely using digital technology. In this, common people will also get the opportunity to enter their own information and carry out their own census. Leaving behind the traditional paper-based process, this time the census will be conducted through digital means.
