The Himachal government has issued strict directives regarding the dress code and social media usage for government employees. In orders issued by the Department of Personnel, the government has clarified that the attire of employees in government offices must be neat, modest, and professional.

Formal attire at work 

The order states that maintaining discipline, dignity, and a professional image at the workplace is essential. Following these directives, male employees are required to wear formal attire such as shirts, trousers, and slacks to the office. For female employees, sarees, salwar-kameez suits, and formal dresses have been prescribed.

What not to wear? 

Employees have been instructed to refrain from wearing jeans, T-shirts, and casual or party wear. Clothing worn in the office must be decent and formal. Any violation of these orders will be deemed a serious transgression, and disciplinary action will be initiated against the concerned employees.

These orders have been issued by the Department of Personnel, directing all Administrative Secretaries, Heads of Departments, and Boards/Corporations to ensure compliance.

Strictness Regarding Social Media

These orders also require employees to exercise discipline on social media platforms. They have been instructed not to express personal opinions or make comments regarding government policies on public forums. Employees have been directed to refrain from engaging in political or religious rhetoric, sharing any government information or documents without prior permission, and making posts or statements that could adversely affect the image of the government or the institution.
