Himachal: Panchayat Secretary Suspected of Involvement in Old-Age Pension Fraud; CM Orders Inquiry

In the Chhouhara Development Block, within the Tangnu-Janglikh Gram Panchayat, several questions have arisen regarding alleged irregularities linked to old-age pensions. These questions specifically concern copies of the Family Register issued by the Panchayat, pension recommendations forwarded by the Tehsil Welfare Officer’s office, and documents about beneficiary eligibility.

The role of the then-serving Panchayat Secretary in this matter is also reported to be under a cloud of suspicion.

It is reported that the government has taken this matter seriously after it was exposed in the media. Following the publication of the news report, the Chief Minister directed the concerned departments to conduct an impartial inquiry into the entire affair. Subsequently, the Director of e-SOMSA issued instructions to the District Welfare Officer to complete the investigation within a stipulated timeframe.

During the inquiry, officials are examining the basis upon which the copies of the Family Register issued by the Panchayat for the approval of pensions were prepared, and whether the eligibility of the beneficiaries was properly verified. Departmental officials are currently scrutinizing records and questioning the employees involved.

If any manipulation of documents or disregard for established rules is substantiated, strict action could be taken against the concerned officials and employees. There is also a possibility that a First Information Report (FIR) regarding this matter will be lodged with the police within the next day or two. Currently, the investigation into this matter is ongoing. The revelation of this scandal has caused a stir within the concerned department, giving rise to various speculations and discussions.

Upon becoming aware of the situation, the District Welfare Officer was directed to investigate the pension-related irregularities within the Tangnu-Janglikh Panchayat. Following the completion of the inquiry, the government is proceeding to take appropriate action in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations.
