Himachal Pradesh: AI-based ECG Launched at AIIMS Bilaspur

An Artificial Intelligence-based ‘Cardia 12L’ ECG system has been installed at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bilaspur. With this installation, AIIMS Bilaspur has become the country’s first central government hospital to commence the utilization of this state-of-the-art technology.

Led by Executive Director Lt. Gen. (Dr.) Daljit Singh (Retd.), this initiative sets a new direction not only for Himachal Pradesh but for government healthcare institutions across the entire nation. Certified by the USFDA, this technology is poised to play a pivotal role in the accurate and rapid diagnosis of cardiac ailments.

Until now, traditional ECG machines merely generated a graph of heartbeats, which doctors had to analyze manually. This process was time-consuming and remained susceptible to the possibility of human error.

However, the Cardia 12L system completely transforms this paradigm. Utilizing AI algorithms, the machine instantly analyzes ECG data to detect whether a patient is suffering from arrhythmia, ischemia, or any other cardiac abnormality. This provides doctors with precise, real-time information, thereby eliminating delays in initiating treatment.

According to experts, the initial one-hour window—often referred to as the “Golden Hour”—is the most critical period in cases of heart attacks or severe cardiac diseases. Until now, such cutting-edge AI-based technology was available exclusively in private hospitals located in major metropolitan cities. With its introduction at AIIMS Bilaspur, patients from the common and underprivileged sections of society will now also be able to access world-class healthcare services.Immediate Assessment of Patient Condition

The AI-based ECG system facilitates the immediate assessment of a patient’s condition and generates automated reports, thereby assisting doctors in making prompt decisions and preventing delays in treatment. This will contribute to a reduction in mortality rates and help save the lives of critically ill patients. Even subtle cardiac anomalies can now be detected in a timely manner. The machine is portable and can be easily transported to wards, ICUs, OPDs, or the patient’s bedside. Furthermore, the patient’s complete medical data will be securely stored in a digital format, facilitating easier and more efficient treatment in the future.
