Himachal Pradesh Records Unseasonal Heat Waves; Temperatures Rise Up to 9°C Above Normal

Himachal Pradesh is experiencing heat waves in February. The state’s average maximum temperature has risen 5.6 degrees above normal, with many cities seeing it reach 9 degrees above normal. Kalpa recorded the highest maximum temperature increase of 8.6 degrees above normal, reaching 15.2 degrees Celsius.

Cities Experiencing Extreme Temperature Rise

• Kalpa: Maximum temperature rose 8.6°C above normal to 15.2°C

• Kangra: 7.4°C above normal, reaching 25.5°C

• Bhuntar: 7.0°C above normal, reaching 25.0°C

• Shimla: 5.2°C above normal, reaching 18.5°C

• Una: 5.1°C above normal, reaching 28.4°C

• Manali: 5.6°C above normal, reaching 17.4°C

Minimum temperatures have also remained above normal in most parts of the state.

Western Disturbance weakened without rain

According to the Meteorological Department, temperatures will rise further over the next five to six days, as rain and snowfall are unlikely. Two days ago, however, a bulletin predicted rain and snowfall in the higher mountains today. However, the Western Disturbance is weakening without rain. The latest bulletin now forecasts clear weather throughout the state.

Light snowfall is expected in the higher reaches tomorrow.

Although light rain and snowfall may occur tomorrow in the higher reaches of Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, and Kinnaur, the weather will remain clear in other parts. The weather will remain completely clear in the state until February 22nd.

The state has received 27 percent less rainfall than normal this winter season. The normal rainfall between January 1st and February 16th is 139.2 mm, but this time, only 101.9 mm of rain fell.
