Himachal Pradesh Records 86% Less Rainfall in February; Dry Weather to Continue

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh experienced a near-dry month this February. According to the Meteorological Department, the state recorded an average of only 14.7 mm of rainfall in February, compared to a normal rainfall of 101.8 mm. Thus, the state as a whole received 86 percent less rainfall than normal.

According to the IMD, Solan district recorded the highest rainfall deficit of 96 percent. Furthermore, Sirmaur and Una saw 94 percent rainfall deficits each, Bilaspur 93 percent, Kangra 90 percent, and Shimla 82 percent. This significant deficit in February is expected to impact Rabi crops, horticulture, and drinking water sources.

Weather forecast to remain dry in Himachal

According to the Meteorological Department’s forecast, the weather in the state will remain mainly dry starting March 1st. There is no possibility of rain or snowfall in the plains, mid-mountain areas, and high mountain areas for the next five to seven days. Currently, no weather warnings have been issued for any district.

However, a western disturbance is expected to become active on the night of March 4th, which could lead to a partial change in the weather. Light rain and snowfall are expected in high-altitude areas. According to the Meteorological Department, the state’s lowest temperature was recorded at minus 2.7 degrees Celsius in Tabo.

Temperature Highlights

The highest maximum temperature was recorded in Una at 30.2 degrees Celsius. Clear weather is expected to further increase daytime temperatures in the coming days, while mild chills may persist in the morning and evening.
