Himachal Pradesh Revises Domestic Gas Cylinder Booking Rules Amid West Asia Tensions

Shimla: In Himachal Pradesh, domestic gas cylinder bookings can now be made only 25 days after delivery, a major shift from the previous system where new bookings could be made immediately after delivery.

The change, effective from Saturday, comes amid rising tensions in West Asia and uncertainty in global energy supplies.

Oil Companies Instruct Distributors

Oil companies have directed gas distributors to follow the new rule strictly. Booking systems—both online and via phone—will not accept orders made before 25 days have passed since the last cylinder delivery.

The measure aims to maintain balanced domestic gas availability and ensure supply for all consumers. Officials noted that this rule may be temporary and could be revised once supply conditions normalize.

Domestic Cylinder Prices Rise

Domestic gas cylinders in Himachal now cost Rs 957. Including home delivery in Shimla and surrounding areas, consumers will pay Rs 1,015, with delivery charges fixed at Rs 57.75. A subsidy of Rs 31 per cylinder will be credited to consumers’ bank accounts.

Commercial Cylinders Costlier Amid Wedding Season

The price of commercial cylinders has increased by Rs 114, bringing the total to Rs 2,075 including delivery. The ongoing wedding season has increased demand for commercial cylinders, and the new booking restrictions may create supply challenges for events and ceremonies.

Reason for Change

Officials said the new system is designed to prevent supply disruptions and ensure smooth distribution amid rising geopolitical tensions and fluctuations in global gas availability.
