Himachal Weather: IMD Warns of Heatwave; Temperature Above Normal Across State

Shimla: A heat wave alert has been issued for three districts of Himachal Pradesh today. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heat waves in some areas of Kullu, Mandi, and Solan districts. In view of this, people have been advised to avoid sun exposure during the day. Pregnant women, children, and the elderly are especially advised to exercise extra caution.

A significant increase in temperatures has been recorded in most cities across the state. The state’s average maximum temperature has risen 9 degrees Celsius above normal, and the minimum temperature has risen 5.3 degrees Celsius above normal. According to the Meteorological Department, Shimla’s average maximum temperature on March 6th is around 15 degrees Celsius, but this time the minimum temperature has reached 15.4 degrees.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 25.3 degrees Celsius, 10.1 degrees above normal. Similarly, the maximum temperature in Kalpa rose 14.3 degrees above normal to 23.5 degrees Celsius. In Keylong, the temperature rose 12.2 degrees to 14.2 degrees Celsius.

The mercury in Bhuntar rose 10.9 degrees to 31.8 degrees Celsius, while Kangra recorded a 10.1 degree rise to 32.0 degrees Celsius. Manali’s temperature also rose 10.2 degrees above normal to 24.6 degrees Celsius.

Mercury crosses 30 degrees in 11 cities

Maximum temperatures in 11 cities across the state were recorded above 30 degrees Celsius. Una recorded a high of 34 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures also increased significantly. Shimla’s night temperature reached 15.4 degrees Celsius, 9.3 degrees above normal.

The minimum temperature in Kalpa was recorded at 7.5 degrees Celsius, an increase of 8.7 degrees above normal, and the minimum temperature in Manali was recorded at 8.8 degrees Celsius, an increase of 7 degrees above normal.

Chances of rain and snow today

According to the Meteorological Department, a Western Disturbance may become active today. Due to this, light snowfall is expected on the high peaks of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, and Kullu. Clear weather is expected throughout the state on March 8th.

While another Western Disturbance is expected to become active on March 9, its impact is expected to bring rain to many parts of the state on March 11 and 12.
