Heatwave Alert Issued in Parts of Himachal Pradesh; Rain and Snowfall Likely

Shimla: The heat has begun to intensify in Himachal Pradesh in the early days of March, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a yellow heatwave alert for several districts.

Yellow Alert for Kangra, Kullu and Mandi

The alert has been issued for Kangra, Kullu and Mandi, where temperatures have risen significantly above normal levels. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and avoid exposure to intense heat.

At present, the state’s average maximum temperature is 7.5°C above normal, while the minimum temperature is about 5°C above normal.

Temperatures Rise Sharply Across State

In Keylong, the maximum temperature reached 14.7°C, which is 11.7°C above normal.

The capital Shimla recorded a maximum temperature of 24.7°C, 8.9°C above normal, while Kalpa recorded 21.8°C, about 11.2°C above normal.

Temperatures in 13 cities across the state have crossed 30°C, with Una recording the highest at 33.4°C.

Rain and Snowfall Expected From March 10

Weather experts say a Western Disturbance will become active from March 10, bringing a change in weather conditions.

March 10: Light rain and snowfall expected in high-altitude areas

March 11: Rain likely across most parts of the state

March 12: Rain possible in medium and high-altitude regions

March 13–14: Rain and snowfall likely to continue in high-altitude areas

Thunderstorm Alert for March 11–12

The Meteorological Department has also issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms on March 11 and 12 in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi.

Strong winds of 40–50 km/h are expected in Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur districts.

This change in weather is likely to bring a slight drop in temperatures, offering relief from the ongoing heat across the state.
