Heavy Rain Batters Himachal Pradesh: 839 Roads Blocked, Orange Alert in 3 Districts

Shimla, Aug 31: Rain is pouring like a disaster in Himachal Pradesh. There is no hope of relief from rain even today. There is an orange alert for heavy rain in Chamba, Kangra and Kullu districts for the next 24 hours. Yellow alert has been issued in Mandi, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur districts. It rained throughout the night in many areas of the state.

Meanwhile, in view of the disaster in the district, DC Chamba has cancelled the Sunday holidays of all the employees of PWD, Electricity Board, Jal Shakti Department, Rural Development Department, Panchayati Raj, Municipal Corporation, Food and Supplies, Health, AYUSH and Revenue Department, so that relief and rescue work in the district can be expedited. DC has directed all the employees to engage in disaster relief and rescue work in the district on a war footing.

839 roads including 3 NHs are closed

At the same time, the rain that has been continuing for the past one week has caused heavy damage. 839 roads including 3 national highways in the state have been blocked for traffic. This has affected the movement of people as well as the transportation of apples.

The Shimla-Kinnaur NH is also closed at Nigulsari and Nathpa slide points in Kinnaur due to heavy rains last night.

CM to visit Kullu today

On the other hand, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will visit Kullu today after Chamba and will visit the disaster affected areas here. After meeting the disaster affected people in Manali and meeting the local administration, he can return to Shimla by late evening.
