Himachal Pradesh Snowfall Warning: Blizzards & Cold Wave Alert for Next 24 Hours

Shimla: A warning has been issued for heavy snowfall in Himachal Pradesh for the next 24 hours. Along with the snowfall, an alert has also been issued for blizzards, cold waves, and hailstorms. Locals, including tourists, have been advised to avoid traveling to higher altitudes during this period.

Heavy snowfall is possible in one or two spells on the higher peaks of Lahaul Spiti, Chamba, Kullu, and Kinnaur districts. Snowfall is also expected in the higher elevations of Shimla, Mandi, Kangra, Sirmaur, and Solan districts. Lower and medium-altitude areas may experience heavy rainfall during this period.

Thunderstorms & Strong Winds Forecast in 10 Districts

In view of the alert issued by the Meteorological Department, DC Kullu Torul S Ravish has decided to declare holiday in all educational institutions of Manali and Banjar sub divisions today.

The weather has changed in most parts of the state since last night. Thunderstorms with winds of up to 60 kilometers per hour are forecast for all 10 districts except Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur today. Similarly, a yellow alert for cold wave has been issued for 10 districts today.

This will cause temperatures to drop by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius. Hailstorms are also forecast for Una, Bilaspur, Solan, and Sirmaur districts tomorrow.

Weather Update: Relief Expected on January 30, Snow Again on Jan 31

The Western Disturbance will weaken slightly starting tomorrow. This will result in light rain and snowfall only in the higher regions on January 28th and 29th. The weather will remain clear in the lower regions. The weather will clear across the state on January 30th. The Western Disturbance will become active again on January 31st. This is likely to lead to good rain and snowfall until February 1st.

750 roads including 3 NHs in the state

Last Friday’s heavy rain and snowfall in the state has already disrupted 750 roads, including three national highways, 1,500 power transformers, and 175 drinking water projects. The road closures are disrupting public movement, troubling both the general public and tourists. In such a situation, another snowfall alert will only exacerbate people’s problems.
