IMD Alert: Snowfall on high peaks, Heavy rain in 12 Himachal districts

Shimla: The weather in Himachal Pradesh is about to change again. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Shimla has issued an “Orange Alert” for October 5th to 6th, 2025. This warning is for the next 24 hours, and the administration has advised citizens and tourists to remain vigilant.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a strong possibility of hailstorms, thunderstorms, and strong winds in the surrounding areas during this period. There will be a higher risk of thunderstorms and hailstorms from night to morning.

A western disturbance has been active in Himachal Pradesh since last night, and its effects will be visible for the next three days, until October 7th. As a result, snowfall has begun on the high peaks of Himachal Pradesh. Rohtang Peak has been covered in a white blanket of snow, while rain is falling in several districts, including Shimla, Rampur, Hamirpur, Kangra, and Mandi.

The Meteorological Center, Shimla, has issued a warning for three days of rain, hail, and thunderstorms. Winds of up to 40 to 50 kilometers per hour are forecast in the mountains. Rain has already begun in many parts of the state since Sunday morning. It’s raining in Sujanpur, while Shimla remains overcast and the weather remains poor.

Chances of rain in 12 districts

According to the Meteorological Department, isolated areas in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Kangra, and Mandi districts may experience rain and hail today. The IMD has predicted rain in most areas.

At the same time, in view of the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti and Mandi districts tomorrow i.e. on October 6, an orange alert has been issued.

There may be snowfall on the higher peaks.

According to the Meteorological Department, snowfall is expected in the higher peaks of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti districts from tomorrow until October 7. Light snowfall is also possible in the Dhauladhar region of Dharamshala and the higher elevations of Chamba district. This will cause temperatures to drop.

The temperature will decrease from tonight.

Temperatures in most cities across the state are still above normal. Temperatures will begin to decrease starting tonight. The state’s average maximum temperature is currently 0.7 degrees above normal. Maximum and minimum temperatures are forecast to drop two to three degrees below normal over the next three to four days.
