The Panchayati Raj Department will soon issue a notification for the redrawing of panchayat and Zila Parishad wards. The matter is also before the High Court, but the state government is proceeding with its preparations. According to sources, Patwaris, Kanungos, and teachers will be appointed as administrators in the panchayats. The term of the Panchayati Raj institutions in the state is set to end at the end of January. The entire process is to be completed in February and March.
After the notification is issued, the District Commissioners will begin the process of redrawing the wards. The Panchayati Raj institutions will prepare the voter lists. Time will also be given for people to raise objections and offer suggestions. Panchayati Raj Secretary C. Palrasu said that a notification for the redrawing of panchayat and Zila Parishad wards will be issued soon.
Panchayats will increase, Zila Parishad wards may decrease
With the redrawing of wards, new panchayats will also be formed in Himachal Pradesh. The number of Zila Parishad wards may increase or decrease. Several applications have been received for the creation of new panchayats. There are several panchayats that have been reserved for women for the past 20 years. The government is also looking into this matter seriously. Currently, there are 3,577 panchayats in Himachal Pradesh. Their number may increase due to the reorganisation and redrawing of wards. Elections are to be held in the state to elect members to 250 Zila Parishad wards, including 91 Panchayat Samitis.
